Frankie says party

You just played the Love Festival at the Palms in Las Vegas. How was that?
The four day event was amazing, to say the least. Michael Fuller/N9NE Group manufactured the largest line up of DJs in Las Vegas history! Everyone from Paul Van Dyk, Carl Cox, Paul Oakenfold, Lisa Shaw, to DJ AM performed. A lot of people from all over the world will be talking about the event for a long time.

What can we expect to hear at the Vegas Night party? What’s the Frank Richards signature sound?
Everything from deep house to classics, tech house to progressive, with a lot of vocals and thick baselines in between. From the response I’ve received from my listeners over the years, I’d say I’m best known for playing deep and funky house. I always try to push the limit in my DJ sets with new sounds from around the globe. I like to experiment by playing new tracks that guests wouldn't usually expect to hear.

Did house music take a while to catch on in the US?
Yes and no. Since the early 90s house music has always had a strong presence in some cities and scenes around the US, but it was very underground and only appealed to certain people. Over the past five to ten years or so, electronic music has become very much more mainstream. [House] DJs are like household names in the US these days. It's definitely been a ride for us!

You're on tour to promote your new album. What inspired you this time?
The album is called LA Confidential. It's a four-track album that will be released [this month] on my label, HiSoL Recordings. What inspired this album was my last tour in Asia back in May and June of 2008.
Ko Kimura took us to this club called Ageha at Tokyo Bay where Dave Seaman was playing for around 5,000 people. As we watched the sun rise above the bay, I thought to myself... ‘Wow, the sun is rising here and setting in Los Angeles.’ The entire weekend was just amazing; I played the Final KOOL Party at Space Lab Yellow with Ko. I decided then and there that I would dedicate all my time to the studio for the rest of the year.

You mention on your MySpace page that Ko Kimura's final party at Space Lab Yellow in Tokyo is your hottest booking to date, and you're coming out with an album in tribute to the city. You seem to have some love for Tokyo.
Tokyo was the first place I visited overseas in 2004, and I just fell in love with the place! The food, the people, the culture, the clubs, music, the streets, the smell, just everything about Tokyo blew my mind! I like to call it organised chaos [laughs].The mindset there is like no other and cannot be explained. It has to be experienced. Some people will get it, some won't.

You've been playing Sin City for 18 years. What's the craziest thing you've seen at a party?
Ha, I’ve been asked that question so many times! It’s really hard to pinpoint the craziest thing I've seen, there’s just too much and I don't want to get sued! I was the resident DJ at PURE Nightclub at Ceasar’s Palace for around five years [2004-2009]. As you know, PURE is a celebrity magnet, so I’ll let you use your imagination.

Vegas must be suffering a little. What's the nightlife scene like there now?
Sure, Vegas is feeling the economic melt down on paper, but you’d never see it if you came here. Vegas is rockin’, no question! The clubs are packed every night with the biggest headliners on the planet, week in and week out.

Best thing about working on the Strip? Worst?
The best thing about working on the Las Vegas Strip is working on the Las Vegas Strip! There is no down side to it… maybe the traffic.
